IF YOU FIND THE BUDDHA ON THE ROAD, KILL HIM
HD, Single channel video, 5:52 min
In If You Find The Buddha On The Road, Kill Him the character of Godzilla plays the protagonist in a journey of enlightenment. Godzilla, one of the most iconic kaiju monsters of Japan was born from the devastation and mourning of the brutality of WWII, Godzilla in turn bears a complex identity. Godzilla finds herself caught between the tides of a romanticism for a fleeting traditional Japan and the explosion of a new industrialized postmodern society. Appropriating stills from Godzilla (1954) I invite the viewer to share the visions of a dreaming man who is frequently visited by the memories of a dejected youth who attempts to achieve enlightenment in the wake of WWII.
