SAD NUDE

Foam, Choker, Archival Ink Jet Prints, - Various Dimensions - 2024

Sad Nude captures the essence of angst—the original Emo. This small Mesoamerican sculpture, originally named “Seated Maiden,” was collected for its striking resemblance to Aristide Maillol’s La Nuit. As if foreshadowing its own objectification, Sad Nude rejects the Western gaze by refusing to return it, this refusal to be labeled is at the core of our collective angst. It stands as the ultimate black sheep: genderless, sexless, and steeped in despair.

Sad Nude appears in three distinct dialogues. The first pairing presents Sad Nude in contrast to Maillol objectification of his wife as a “muse.” The second demonstrates Snoopy’s anthropomorphic exploration of the human psyche. Lastly, the viewer is invited to step into the role of both observer and voyeur. Ultimately, Sad Nude asks not to be seen, but to be understood. XD
